Page views explained

What Hubbo counts as a page view, which visits count, and what happens when you reach your limit.

Your plan includes an allowance of page views. The name is a little misleading, so read this carefully: Hubbo counts unique browser sessions, not every page load.

The rule

The first time a browser session loads Hubbo on your site, Hubbo counts one page view and stores a session cookie named hubbo_pv_* (set by api.hubbo.io, httpOnly). While the browser stays open, the same visitor can browse many pages, open notifications, answer NPS, take a survey and view the roadmap or status page without adding more. Closing the browser and coming back starts a new session, which counts again.

Session UU, not per-tab

The session cookie belongs to the browser session, not a single tab. Two tabs in the same browser window session count once.

What counts and what does not

Which account is counted

Page views are tracked per account, against the allowance of the plan of the account owner. If you own several accounts they each have their own counter.

When the limit is reached

The embed asks the API whether usage is allowed. When your allowance is used up the answer is no and the widgets stop showing on your site. Public roadmap and status pages also stop answering. Nothing is deleted: when you upgrade, or your allowance resets, everything comes back.

No workarounds

The counter is enforced on the Hubbo servers with an httpOnly cookie that your page scripts cannot read or forge. Do not try to bypass it, upgrade instead. See Upgrading.

When allowances reset

  • When you upgrade or a subscription invoice is paid, the page-view counter is reset.
  • Downgrading or cancelling does not reset it. If you were above the new plan’s limit, usage is capped at that limit.
  • On the Free plan, usage starts over 30 days after the last reset once the limit has been reached.

You can opt in to an email warning when you are about to exceed the limit in your user preferences. Developers can read more in usageAllowed.

Not the same as Analytics page views

The Analytics tab also shows “page views” for your public status page and roadmaps. Those numbers are product metrics (unique sessions on those surfaces). They are not a second plan counter. Your plan limit is only the session allowance described on this page. See Analytics overview.
